Sophie Trouse Silver Arts Award

Today we discussed how I will go about obtaining my silver arts award, through a combination of visual arts, and organising a multimedia event to raise awareness of mental health. Although this is relatively early on in my current project, I aim to improve my photography especially on the topic of urban decay and dereliction. I find that 28dayslater is a very useful website/forum to exhibit photography and comment on others images. I am planning to upload a report of my own photos to this site.

To do this I need to consider
  • the legalities - I have to think about whether my entry to such places is lawful. If I decide it is verging on illegal, that building is out of the question, for example any forced entry is illegal.
  • equipment needed
  • time management
  • proximity/transport
  • research possible buildings locally
Last month, I attended MCM Expo which is a comic and anime convention in London where i saw other artists work, which gave me insight into alternative drawing styles, for example 'chibifying' characters to convey emotion at particular moments in a story.

John Conrad's Silver Arts Award

Hello and welcome to my quest to obtain the Silver Arts Awards. I recently achieved my Bronze Award and as so I could start working towards the Silver.

17/11/10

For my Silver Award I will be putting together a portfolio of my achievements and how I plan to improve my skills of photography and filming. While I am putting my portfolio together, I shall be working on my skills to display the effects of mental health which will be used in an up-coming event. I will be mainly focusing on the mental health of someone who has depersonalization, derealization, ADHD and asperger's disorder.

24/11/10

The way I will display this is by creating a person with these problems and be interviewed, asking how the mental disorders affect the every day to day activies and lifestyle. I will also be asking how the person deals with the disorders and if they are getting any help from a mental health team in the local area.

1/12/10

I've started to write out the questions that will be asked during the interview and the decided who will be taking certain roles during the project. I plan to do the whole filming project as a workshop that will hopefully give the crew the needed skills for future projects.
I'm now gathering images and taking my own pictures to which I will edit to display a different kind of world which will show what some people with mental health disorders see or feel in normal public areas. I will be using photoshop elements for the of the editing process and try and create the atmosphere I'm after.

6/12/10

After much searching I have found 10 images that I feel would be suitable, after editing, for the iMind event. The images I was focusing on were to do with multi-personality disorder and derealisation and displaying some images with the person on one side and a demonic form of the person on the other. The idea of the demonic form of the person is displaying their other personality(s) as their demon(s) that they cannot escape. Some of the derealistation will be displaying streets or rooms and then have a picture were it could be see through someone elses eyes, such as being a clear day walking down a street on the first picture and then on the second would be foggy or rain. The rain can be linked to depression.

Review: Biffy Clyro - God & Satan

Here are three comments I found from from the video's location and I believed they raised some really good important points:

Can you lot please shut up. Here is not the place to be debating the pros and cons of Christianity. Just enjoy the song and stop insulting what some people believe in.

i'd say it was about paganism tbh, or being uncertian about your religion and maybe doubting God. "i know for sure that someone is watching but is it from up or down?"

Displaying both uncertiantanty and possibly pagamism.

the song is about being in a mental state! no religion!!

Lyrics:

I talk to God as much as I talk to Satan 'cause I want to hear both sides

Does that make me cynical
There are no miracles
And this is no miraculous life

I savour hate as much as I crave love because
I'm just a twisted guy
Is this the pinnacle, is this the pinnacle, the pinnacle of being alive
Now I see the light

Well I look up to god but I see trouble 'cause this aint a miracle
I just want to take my chance to live through a miracle

Ooah
Ooah

I know for certain that some one is watching but is it from up or down
I make you miserable you stick with me although
you know I'm gonna ruin your life

I talk to God as much as i talk to Satan 'cause I want to hear both sides
Does that make me cynical
There are no miracles
And this is no miraculous life

We walk into the tide

Well I look up to god but I see trouble 'cause this ain't no miracle
I just want to take my chance to live through a miracle

When the see-saw snaps and splinters your hand don't come crying to me
I'll only see your good side
And believe it's a miracle
A miracle

I slap the water and watch
The fish dance in the ripples of us
We're just stubborn duds
Blinking eyes encased in rust

This aint a miracle
This aint a miracle
This aint a miracle
This aint a miracle

Ooah
Ooah

CRAIG KEMP: ARTS AWARD evidence

Hi my names Craig Kemp and I started to come to Media Hub to learn about different types of media. I decided to stick around and have learned many things from being here....

My Arts Activity:
I enjoy watching anime films and drawing anime characters. For my Arts Award I attended some film production and editing workshops and set out to create an anime music video of my own. I used iMovie on the Macs at Media Hub and edited images to a music track.

My finished film is showing on Youtube and a HubClub DVD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dOMZSzjUXY

Workshops

technical
- choose footage from anime episodes to edit together onto music track
-load music track into imovie
-download episodes
-upload clips into imovie
-finely edit clips to music beats

Creative
I considered:
-speed of images linking to speed changes of music
-speed and furiousity and type of music relating to anime
-heavy rock with fast paced riffs, slow guitar solos using distorted guitar effects, rock drumming and lyrics about heroism and combat

Knowledge
combined cultures - I have combined Japanese animation with European rock music. There is a big rock following in Japan called j-rock but i felt that this did not fit in with the anime as it is quite bouncy and lyrically not so appropriate

B-Going to an arts event

Between The Cracks-a theatre production touring at Haverhill Arts Centre
May 2010

This is the flyer for the event

This is our interview held at the Hubclub to review and share the production. We added this to the website CB9mediahub.org.uk. which is used to promote Haverhill Arts Centre's youth media project.

I thought the production was very good at portraying someone with borderline personality disorder. I think that it is important to raise awareness about mental health and this is a good way to inform people about what the disorder can be like. The message came across well and I would recommend anyone to go and see this production.

Part c-My hero is Masashi Kishimoto. He started drawing basic anime at aged 14. He eventually developed it into a manga book series. A few years later he sold it to Shonen Jump a japenese film company who also produce Bleach and Death Note. His first anime was released and it a huge success in Japan. For my research please check youtube link below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvWnurb-AZk

part - d arts apprenticeship
For my arts apprebticeship I decided to show the CB9 Media group how to draw an anime eye with the wacon pen on Gimp software.
I wanted to share this skill with the group because there are alot of people here interested in anime and manga.
The workshop included
-showing different tools how to draw outlines
-add colour
-erase colour and lines
-save the image
We only have one wacom pad and pen here so we had to share a computer. I demonstrated first with a drwaing of an eye. Then each person had a go.

The feedback I got was positive. "inventive" "interesting" Insightful"!
I think I would do the workshop like this again and it would be great to do at an event if we were promoting the CB9 Hubclub as it is simple but effective.
Here is an example of an anime eye from the workshop

Sophie Munro Arts Award.

Sophie Munro's Arts Award

Hello I am Sophie Munro. I came to media hub to learn new skills.
This blog is about my Bronze Arts Award. I have to take four parts; A B C and D.

A- Taking part in an arts activity.

For this I wanted to learn how to use photo shop. here is a screen shot of me explaining how I managed to edit this masterpeice in photoshop.

Part B- going to an arts event

The Burton Center held the U Event, the event I attended. There was Free running, break dancing, a video workshop, interactive dance, the pamper zone, Five-a-side world cup football, and MC'ing
Despite the horrible weather most of the preformances continued including the breakdanceing and MC'ing from Simbad Fresh from Cambridge. I did get a chance to see most of these activites and enjoyed the breakdancing the most. It was nice to see a group of dances with a variation of age and gender.
Here is the media crew back at base. I am sharing my reveiw about the U festival. I am projecting photographs that were taken of the activities and chatting about the day. The media hub crew from the left Andrew, Me, Craig, and Dan

Part C Arts heroes and heroines

My hero is Matsuri Hino...
Matsuri Hino (樋野まつり, Hino Matsuri?) is a Japanese mangaka born in Sapporo, Hokkaidō. She made her professional debut in the September 10, 1995 issue of LaLa DX with the one-shot title Ko no Yume ga Same Tara (この夢が覚めたら, When This Dream is Over?) .

* (1999) Toraware no Mi no Ue (とらわれの身の上?); English translation: Captive Hearts (2008)
* (2002) MeruPuri Meruhen Purinsu (めるぷり メルヘン☆プリンス?); English translation: MeruPuri (2005)
* (2005) Wanted; English translation: Wanted (2008)[1]
* (2005) Vanpaia Naito (ヴァンパイア騎士(ナイト)?); English translation: Vampire Knight (2006)
* (2008) Vampire Knight: Ice Blue's Sin (ヴァンパイア騎士 憂氷の罪, Vanpaia Naito: Aisu Burū no Tsumi) (light novel)
* (2008) Vampire Knight: Noir's Trap (ヴァンパイア騎士 凝黒の罠, Vanpaia Naito: Nowāru no Wana) (light novel)

Im currently reading one of her best works of art, a manga called Vampire knight. Her other successful manga merupuri has a cute and lovely plot, so vampire knight was her first serious manga. Her manga vampire knight was so successful that it was turned into an Anime.

I Recemend you look up Vampire Knight on Youtube, and Meripuri in MangaFox.com

I Enjoy reading both manga and watching Animes. Though I havent read muripuri from first impresstions I think it looks like a good manga. I have the first two manga's in watched the vampire knight anime series and have watched all of season 1 (aswell as some of season 2) and personaly think that Matsuri Hino is a pure genius, her story lines and skill in drawing the characters amazes me. She is a very skilled Mangaka which is why she is my Heroine

part D arts apprenticeship.

6)select the smudge tool and smudge the edges outaward onto the backro
und layer

This is a picture edited by julian salmon who attended my workshop. He was not used to using photo shop but this is what he managed to do.

I wanted to make a simple edit using two images, one of a recent photo and one of an image from photo shop. my original idea was cutting out faces from recent photos and placing them into the center of flowers but after thinking long and hard about what i should do i fianlly decided to let my students in my workshop to choose an animal of flower which they thought they looked most like befor letting them edit either there face or there eyes onto there chosen photo. This was particulaly difficult in the sence that i was finding it difficult to use this curtain verion of photoshop but i quickly over came this problem and made a perfect edit myself while showing my students how to use the programe aswell.

Here is me (left) explaining something to Julian at my workshop

Julian s arts award

Julian Salmon-My Bronze Arts Award Blogsite

This is a serious photo of me thinking hard about having my photo taken?!

Here I am at the Hub Club I come to CB9media hub club to learn more about computers, media and taking photos. I am learning about mac applications such as photobooth, i movie and an internet Blogsite. I come to hub club because the people here are creative and friendly.
I am taking my arts award and have taken short video clips and photographs to upload for a vj event.

I am going to keep this BLOG for my evidence.

The Arts award
part A -take part in an arts activity

I will be learning how to make a BLOG, how to upload text, photographs and videos onto the CB9mediahubclub Blog site called Blogger.com

I will be uploading photographs th
at I have taken and selected using a digital camera from the Hubclub. I want to learn how to use depth of field to improve my photographs

I will make video logs called a VLOG using photobooth on the mac. I will also add some video footage of my workshop using the screen capture in Quick Time on the mac.

The Hub Club group set up cameras and took photographs of individuals. Lizzie, one of the members of the Hub Club for her arts award apprenticeship was showing us all how to use a digital manipulation programme called Piknic on the web. She showed us how to add text font and colour changes to my photo and I explained why I attended media hub and the things that you can learn and then i uploaded the photo to this blog.

My photography
Here are a few examples of photos I took at school for my arts award, focusing on depth of field framing and angles, in the conference room in Samuel Ward school.
Learning Tips:
"Depth of field increases with distance. The further you place the camera from your subject, the
more depth of field you can obtain. Landscapes have great depth of field, while macro photographs tend to have very little depth of field because the subject is so close to the lens." http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/htmls/depth.html

MY Inspiration:
part c- Arts Heros and Heroines

Manfred Man
I really like the music from the 60's and my favourite band from this time is Manfred Mann. The best song that they wrote is ".Do wah diddy...."

Manfred Man had..five.. band members who playedThe Mann-Hugg Blues BrothersLondon[3] in December 1962 by keyboard player Manfred Mann and drummer/vibes player Mike Hugg (as the band were originally called) were formed in
manfred man were formed in ..
lso known as Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers
Origin London, England
Genres Beat, R&B
Years active 1962-1969
Labels HMV, EMI, Capitol, Ascot (US), Fontana, Mercury (US)
Associated acts Manfred Mann Chapter Three
Manfred Mann's Earth Band
The Blues Band
The Manfreds

Here is a song that I have uploaded. Hope you enjoy it!

I like the song in this video as it makes me imagine the images in the song as it his played and the old clothes as it is set in the 1960's

I have found out that the band reformed in 1991 after being split for a couple of years.
http://www.manfredmann.co.uk/

Original Manfred Mann members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness , and former member Mike d’Abo,
are joined by Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliffe and Simon Currie as the exciting new line-up of The Manfreds, featuring BOTH lead singers from the 1960’s band.
Since The Manfreds re-formed in 1991, they have been in constant demand throughout the World…understandably considering
the number of top ten hits they had, not only with The Manfreds, but also individually.

Hub Club making vj clips 27th January 2010

Today at Media Hub Club I continued my development of my Arts Award project by making VJ clips (very short film clip). Firstly I viewed my film in i Movie and then went through the event footage and selected a piece of film I liked, highlighted it and dragged it to the top of the toolbar. I then added some effects, changed the colour contrast and used slow motion to slow it down. I then exported my edited clip and then I saved it as a quick time movie file (MOV) on the Time Capsule (a very large external storage device).
